Relationship Management and "Buddy Lists" in Drupal

At the core of all the hype around "social networking," and "social media," is the fact that "social" websites allow members of a website to connect with each and develop relationships without needing the administrators or content editors to mediate these connections. This from the "build and they'll come," school of design and strategy. In any case, even though Drupal is a fundamentally social platform, there is no user-to-user relationship support in the core of Drupal.

Drupal Camp Alberta 2009

I just found out that Drupalcamp Alberta which is taking place from 10-11th July at Lethbridge University is open for registrations. If you are planning to attend why not contact the organisers and propose a session as slots are still available, there is already a growing speaker list including Leisa Reichelt from the Drupal 7 usability project.

Data migration: Importing images

On a recent project we had a situation where the client wished to migrate over all the avatars currently in use by their community. Upon investigate we found out that the folder contained over 4GB worth of data. The data was not segmented in such a way that we could identify the images we needed simply from the file structure. Of these images were only needed to obtain approximately 100MB worth, and the database schema told us which ones we needed.

COSSFEST 2009: A review

I attended COSSFEST 2009 one week ago. Calgary as it turns out has an active opensource community for its size and the current president of KDE lives there!! I was the only person there who is actively involved in the Drupal community and earning a living from Drupal. However may of the developers were using Drupal in one way or another so I felt at home.

COSSFEST 2009

In just over a week I will be presenting at the Calgary Open Source Systems Festival (COSSFEST) on how to create Web 2.0 websites using Drupal. COSSFEST is a two day event featuring multiple speaking tracks and workshops demonstrating the use of Open Source to lower costs, and increase the capabilities and competitiveness of your business. Beginning in 2006 as an effort by the Calgary Linux Users Group and was called the "Calgary LinuxFest 2006".

Theming the User Registration Form in Drupal 6

When you are building an online community, one of your important jobs is to remove obstacles for users to sign up to create accounts. Drupal's user registration form, out of the box, is one of the simplest forms out there, and maybe that is why it is also one of the easiest things to overlook when building a site. By the time profile fields are added in, captchas are placed on the page, and other components have had their way with the fields that become part of it, the form can get rather messy and detract from the user experience.

Untamed Organization

One of Trellon's current projects is a site called "Untamed Science," which is designed to be a reference, accessible and useful to all ages, on subjects related to biology and ecology. While the site is still in progress, we wanted to break in and talk about the way we're using the Taxonomy module to organize content on the site.

Sharing Content with Domain Access

We were recently approached by a client who wanted to create two sites to serve different audiences but with vast amounts of common content. The same group of people would be responsible for the upkeep of both sites and the desired solution would allow content to be shared with great ease.

Drupal Camp Alberta

I recently attended Drupal Camp Alberta with about another 50 people. The reason for my attendence was that I had been invited to speak about the drupal services module as one of the co-maintainers of the project.

Salesforce integration using nusaop

Currently we are carrying out a piece of integration work between Drupal and Salesforce. Drupal is responsible for pulling the data from Salesforce and this achieved by calling the SOQL api via a webservice. The data is returned in a SOAP format. This article assumes you are using this salesforce client

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=96634&package_id=166314
